Hao Zhang is an MPhil student at City University of Hong Kong with a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering (Robotics Direction) from Beijing University of Chemical Technology, where he earned honors including Beijing Outstanding Graduate and Beijing Outstanding Graduation Design. His research focuses on UAV design and control, cluster control, and robot grasping and manipulation. He has led multiple robotics projects involving deformable land-air robots and ROS-based arc-wheel robots, published a first-author conference paper at RICAI 2024, and won National First Prize at both the China Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Competition and the RoboCom Competition.

Development of Deformable Land-Air Robots
11/2023 – 11/2024Project Leader & Team Leader, College Students' Innovative Entrepreneurial Training Plan Program
- By reviewing nearly two decades of literature, determined the design direction for the robot's mechanical structure, employing a deformable arm mechanism to enable transition between land and air movement modes
- Independently completed the robot's mechanical design, motion simulation, and FEA; oversaw component procurement and frame 3D printing; and led final assembly
- Participated in robotic kinematics calculations and oversaw the entire programming process, collaborating to complete motion simulation in the Gazebo environment alongside physical deployment and communication setup
- Awarded Provincial 3rd Prize in the iCAN International Contest of Innovation, National 1st Prize at the China Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Competition, and nationally recognized program (<20% in China) for its outstanding completion
Design of an Arc-Wheel Robot Based on ROS System
09/2024 – 11/2024Project Leader
- Determined the mechanical structure design of the robot; performed modeling design, finite element analysis, motion simulation, and 3D printing for each component, and finally assembled the robot
- Designed a single-loop PID control system tailored to the robot's motion characteristics
- Achieved communication control of the robot with the host computer's ROS system via a WiFi module and conducted experiments demonstrating the robot's operation across multiple complex terrains
- First-author paper was published at the RICAI 2024
